In Habakkuk 2:3 it says, “The vision will still happen at the appointed time. It hurries toward its goal. It won’t be a lie. If it’s delayed, wait for it. It will certainly happen. It won’t be late.” (GW)
God is never in a hurry, and he’s never late. He’s always on time.
God’s timing is perfect, even when I don’t understand it. We’ll never fully understand God’s timing because God exists on a different wavelength. Because he is timeless, he has a different view of time.
The Bible talks about God’s understanding of time in 2 Peter 3:8. It says, “Do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day” (NIV).
That doesn’t sound like the way I treat time. It might feel like a thousand years when I’m waiting for a meal sometimes, but we humans don’t think in those terms.
God’s timelessness has big implications for my life. When God created me, he put a dream in my heart. Most people start off with a big vision and a big goal. They have some kind of dream or plan or project for their life.
What vision has God given me? Over the years I’ve discovered that while everybody tends to start off early in life with a vision, as time goes on, more and more people give up on their dream before it’s accomplished. The reason is often because it doesn’t happen fast enough.
Could be that a dream was battered or broken. Or maybe, out of discouragement and disappointment, it's been buried. Just given up on.
What I’m learning is that God doesn’t want me to do that. When God gives a dream for life, it will happen. It just has to happen on his timetable, not mine.
God says this about your dream: “The vision will still happen at the appointed time. It hurries toward its goal. It won’t be a lie. If it’s delayed, wait for it. It will certainly happen. It won’t be late” (Habakkuk 2:3 GW).
Often when we get started, we are in a hurry to get everything done fast. But God says the same thing he will say to you with your dream: “No, it’s not all going to happen right now. But slowly, steadily, the vision will be fulfilled.”
One powerful truth to remember is: God is never early in your life. He is never late in your life. God is always right on time.
God is able to work out his plans in his perfect timing. It isn't easy to be patient, but it helps to remember that God is in control.
In summary, my vision will still happen at the right time, if it's delayed, wait for it. For it will certainly happen. It won't be late. If it seems slow, wait patiently. God is able to work out his plans in his perfect timing. God is never in a hurry, nor is he late. He is always on time, even when I can't understand it. God has planted a dream in my heart. As time goes on, I can easily give up on it, especially since it doesn't seem like it's going to happen fast enough. I'm reminded that if God gave me a dream, it will happen. It just needs to be on his timetable, not mine. God is never early, nor is he ever late. He is always right on time.
I think God uses my time of waiting to help train and get me ready. I have to be willing to accept it. I also need to not rush things. I need to just do the next step he lays out for me and not rush it.
