In Job 11:13-18 I read, “Surrender your heart to God, turn to him in prayer, and give up your sins—even those you do in secret. Then you won’t be ashamed; you will be confident and fearless. Your troubles will go away like water beneath a bridge, and your darkest night will be brighter than noon. You will rest safe and secure, filled with hope and emptied of worry." (CEV)
How do I learn to live in God’s love so that I can live free of fear? I have to surrender my heart to God every day.
The Bible says in 1 John 4:18, “Where God’s love is, there is no fear, because God’s perfect love drives out fear” (NCV).
When I wake up each morning, before my feet hit the floor, I should say, “God, before I even start this day, I surrender my emotions to you. I want you to be the Lord of my feelings. I want you to control my mind and my emotions. I surrender my heart to you. I want you to fill me with your love.”
Job 11:13-18 says, “Surrender your heart to God, turn to him in prayer, and give up your sins—even those you do in secret. Then you won’t be ashamed; you will be confident and fearless. Your troubles will go away like water beneath a bridge, and your darkest night will be brighter than noon. You will rest safe and secure, filled with hope and emptied of worry” (CEV).
Those verses hold three commands and eight promises. Every promise has a premise, God says if I do this, then he’ll do that.
First, he gives me the command: Surrender my heart to Him every day. Turn to him in prayer. Give up my sins, confessing them to God.
Then notice the eight benefits: I won’t be ashamed. I’ll be confident. I’ll be fearless. My troubles will be like water under the bridge. The dark night I’m going through will be brighter than noon. I’ll be able to sleep well because I am safe and secure. I will be filled with hope. I’ll be emptied of worry.
Wow! Who wouldn’t want to experience those benefits?
Take a moment to write that Scripture on a piece of paper and put it somewhere I’ll see throughout the week. Let it remind me to do those three things; surrender my heart to God, turn to him in prayer, and confess my sins. Then let God’s love fill my life and cast out all my anxiety and fear.
Try it this week, and then watch God carry out his promises as he fills me with his love.
In summary, Surrender my heart to God, turn to him in prayer, and give up my sins, even those you do in secret. Then I won’t be ashamed; I will be confident and fearless. My troubles will go away like water beneath a bridge, and my darkest night will be brighter than noon. I will rest safe and secure, filled with hope and emptied of worry. So how do I learn to live in God’s love so that I can live free of fear? I have to surrender my heart to God every day. For where God’s love is, there is no fear, because God’s perfect love drives out fear. When I wake up, I should say, “God, I surrender my emotions to you. I want you to be the Lord of my feelings. I want you to control my mind and my emotions. I surrender my heart to you. I want you to fill me with your love.” Today’s verses hold three commands and eight promises for me that God says if I do this, then he’ll do that. First, surrender my heart to Him every day, turn to him in prayer. Give up my sins, confessing them to God. Eight benefits can come from this: I won’t be ashamed. I’ll be confident. I’ll be fearless. My troubles will be like water under the bridge. The dark night I’m going through will be brighter than noon. I’ll be able to sleep well because I am safe and secure. I will be filled with hope. I’ll be emptied of worry. Perhaps write that Scripture out on a piece of paper and put it somewhere I’ll see throughout the week. Let it remind me to do those three things; to surrender my heart to God, to turn to him in prayer, and to confess my sins. Then let God’s love fill my life and cast out all my anxiety and fear.
God knows and sees everything. I am often tempted by the thought, "No one will ever know!" While I might be able to hide some sin from others, I can do nothing without God knowing about it. My very thoughts are known to God, of course he will notice my sins.
