In John 1:11-12 I read, “[Jesus] came to the world that was his own, but his own people did not accept him. But to all who did accept him and believe in him he gave the right to become children of God." (NCV)
Nobody’s perfect. No one can claim to be sinless. I often don’t measure up to my own standards, much less God’s. I have flaws, and I make fumbles. That’s why I need to know Jesus, the Savior who came to die for my sins.
Heaven is a perfect place; no sorrow, sadness, or sickness. Heaven is beyond my wildest dreams! Heaven is perfect, but I am not. If God let imperfect people like me into heaven, then it wouldn’t be a perfect place. If God let me into heaven, with all of my imperfections, then heaven would be no better than Earth.
But God had a plan: He came to Earth at Christmastime. He sent his Son, Jesus Christ, to live a perfect life in my place. Then Jesus died to pay for all of my sins so I don’t have to. I get to go to heaven by just trusting him. What a deal!
“He came to the world that was his own, but his own people did not accept him. But to all who did accept him and believe in him he gave the right to become children of God” (John 1:11-12 NCV).
When I trust in Jesus as Savior, I get to become a part of God’s family, and that family is going to last forever.
God created everybody. God loves everybody. God has a purpose for everybody. But God is only the Father of those who choose to become a part of his family by meeting the family requirements: Believe in the Son he sent at Christmas. That’s the condition.
God made me, but he also saved me. The reason he came at Christmas was to die for all my sins. There is no better reason to give him my focus and devotion.
In summary, Jesus came to the world that was his own (he created it), but his own people did not accept him. Although Christ created the world, the people he created didn't recognize him. Even the people chosen by God to prepare the rest of the world for the Messiah rejected him, although the entire Old Testament pointed to his coming. All who welcome Jesus Christ as Lord of their lives are reborn spiritually, receiving new life from God. Through faith in Christ, this new birth changes me from the inside out, rearranging my attitudes, desires, and motives. Being born makes me physically alive and places me in my parents' family. Being born of God makes me spiritually alive and puts me in God's family. Ask Christ to make me a new person? This fresh start in life is available to all who believe in Christ.
