In 2 Chronicles 20:15 I read, “Do not be afraid! Don’t be discouraged by this mighty army, for the battle is not yours, but God’s." (NLT)
Prayer is a conversation, not a monologue. When I pray, don’t do all the talking! I can’t build a friendship with God if I don’t let him talk to me.
How do I let God talk to me? Through His Word. Everything God wants to say to me, is already in his Word. People are always looking for some sign, thinking “I wish God would tell me what he wants me to do. I wish he would write it in the sky.” God is not going to write his will in the sky because he’s already written it in a Book!
Stop looking for a sign, and start looking at Scripture. Stop looking for a vision, and start looking for a verse. God’s will is in God’s Word. The more I read his Book, the more I’m going to know what to do.
King Jehoshaphat was facing three enemy armies that teamed up and advanced against him and Israel. Israel knew they didn’t have the strength to fight them. They knew that, in their own power, they would be defeated. So they prayed for help. This is what God said to them through one of his people:
“‘Do not be afraid! Don’t be discouraged by this mighty army, for the battle is not yours, but God’s . . . You will not even need to fight. Take your positions; then stand still and watch the LORD’s victory. He is with you, O people of Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid or discouraged. Go out against them tomorrow, for the LORD is with you!’ Then King Jehoshaphat bowed low with his face to the ground. And all the people of Judah and Jerusalem did the same, worshiping the LORD” (2 Chronicles 20:15-18 NLT).
Imagine an entire nation getting on the ground, bowing down on their knees, and worshiping God because he told them, “I’m going to take care of it.”
When I pray a breakthrough prayer of surrender like Jehoshaphat did, God will say the same thing to me. So don’t be afraid or discouraged! It’s God’s battle, and he’ll handle it. Keep serving in my position. Wait, and watch what God does.
God has so many more amazing promises for me. But I’ll never know about them until I open the Bible and start reading.
In summary, do not be afraid! Don’t be discouraged, for the battle is not yours, but God’s. Prayer is a conversation, not a monologue. Don’t do all the talking! I can’t build a friendship with God if I don’t let him talk to me. How do I let God talk to me? Everything God wants to say to me, is already in his Word. People are always looking for some sign. I may not fight an enemy army, but every day I battle temptation, pressure, and "evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world who want me to rebel against God. As a believer, I have God's Spirit in me. If I ask for God's help when I face struggles, God will fight for me. And God always triumphs. I let God fight for me by 1). Realizing that the battle is not mine, but God's'; 2). recognizing my human limitations and allowing God's strength to work through my fears and weaknesses; 3). making sure I'm pursuing God's interests and not just my own selfish desire; 4). asking God for help in my daily battles.
