Believe It So I Can See It

In Hebrews 11:1 I read, Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see.” (NLT)

Faith is visualizing the future. It’s believing in something before I see it. Hebrews 11:1 says, “Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see” (NLT).

A lot of people say, “I’ll believe it when I see it!” God says the exact opposite is true: “You’ll see it when you first believe it.” Many things in life must be believed before they can be seen.

Jesus said, “Unless you are born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of God” (John 3:3 NLT). Often, I’m too narrow-minded to see the possibility of what God is doing in the world around me. This is true of every person. Scripture tells me that faith comes before seeing.

It is faith that causes an architect to design a building, first believing it can be done. It is faith that causes an Olympic athlete to practice and go to the Olympic trials because he or she believes they can win. It is faith that causes the scientist to believe that we can put a man on the moon.

It is a universal principle of life: I have to believe it before I see it. When I have faith, I will see the amazing things God is doing in, through, and around me.

In summary, faith shows the reality of what I can hope for; it is the evidence of things I cannot see. Faith is visualizing the future. It’s believing in something before I see it. A lot of people think, “I’ll believe it when I see it!” God tells us the exact opposite is true: “You’ll see it when you first believe it.” Many things in life must be believed before they can be seen. Often, I’m too narrow-minded to see the possibility of what God is doing in the world around me. This is true of everyone. Scripture tells me that faith comes before seeing. It is a universal principle of life: I have to believe it before I see it. When I demonstrate faith, I will see the amazing things God is doing in, through, and around me.

Faith is the confidence based on past experience that God's new and fresh surprises will surely be mine. Two words describe faith: confidence and assurance. These two qualities need a secure beginning and ending point. The beginning point of faith is believing in God's character. That he is who he says. The end point is believing in God's promises: That he'll do what he says. When we believe that God will fulfill his promises even though we don't see those promises materializing yet, we demonstrate true faith.

Father, thank you for Your Word and Jesus as my savior and example. You want me and I need you in my life. Please give me Your strength for today and remind me in little ways that I can always believe in, have faith in and can trust you in everything. This includes being the authority for my life, the source of my self-worth and my hope for the future. You have my best interests in mind. So I ask you to help me to embrace the way you’ve made me; my gifting and passions. Help me to serve and fulfill the mission you have in mind for me.

Father, through your Holy Spirit living in me, I ask for reminders to have a confident assurance in faith.  Allow me to move forward even though I don’t see the material evidence in front of me.

I ask for wisdom and guidance for my day, my work, my leadership, my interactions with others, doing well and making a difference in my new job.  I pray these things through you Son Jesus’ name, Amen.
