In 1 Samuel 16:7 I read, “The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” (NIV)
My life has value and purpose. No matter what I’ve been told by someone in my life or by culture or by the lies Satan puts in my head, I am infinitely precious to God. He thought of me, he made me, to love me, and he cares about every detail of my life. My life reveals God’s purpose and shows his glory.
I am valuable, no matter what I am or where I’m from. And the same is true for every person, from the moment they are born. We’re all differently abled and gifted, but God looks at us the same: with love.
No one is perfect, but the Bible tells me God accepts responsibility for all of my genetic defects. It doesn’t include the problems that I’ve brought upon myself because of poor choices. But all of the genetic weaknesses I didn’t have any say in, are part of how God shaped me for a purpose.
The Bible says in 1 Samuel 16:7, “The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart” (NIV).
God accepts responsibility because he has a bigger perspective than any human. He can see what I can’t see. And he loves me for my potential to do the great things he has planned for me, regardless of my hang-ups.
God isn’t going to compare me with anybody else. He made me, to be me. I am his masterpiece. He’s looking at how I’ll use my spiritual gifts, talents, and abilities. And, he’s going to help me reach my unique potential.
Don’t waste any more time thinking I don’t have something to offer the world or comparing myself to others. I was shaped by God for a great purpose!
In summary, the Lord does not look at the things that people look at. People look at outward appearances, but the Lord looks at the heart. To God, my life has value and purpose, and I am infinitely precious to Him. He thought of and made me, to love me. He cares about every detail of my life. My life reveals God’s purpose and shows his glory. We’re all differently abled and gifted, but God looks at us the same: with love. God accepts responsibility for all of my genetic defects, not including the problems that I’ve brought upon myself because of poor choices. But all of the genetic weaknesses I didn’t have any say in. They are all part of how God shaped me for a purpose. God accepts responsibility because he has a bigger perspective than any human. He can see what I can’t see. But he is looking at how I’ll use my spiritual gifts, talents, and abilities. And, he will help me reach my unique potential. So I shouldn’t waste any more time thinking I don’t have something to offer the world or comparing myself to others. I was shaped by God for a great purpose!
This scripture provides me with the reminder to not judge by appearance alone. Appearance doesn't reveal what people are really like or what their true value is. God judges by faith and character, not appearances. Because God can see on the inside, only he can accurately judge people. I need to concentrate on what steps I can take to improve my heart's attitude?
Lord, I need you. Please give me Your strength for today and remind me in little ways that I can believe in, have faith and to trust you in everything including being the authority for my life, my self-worth and my future. You have my best interests in mind. I need to not judge based upon appearance. I ask you for wisdom and guidance for my day, my work, my leadership, my interactions with others, my preparation for a future job role and for leading a small group. I pray these things through you Son Jesus’ name, amen.
