In James 1:5 I read, “If you want to know what God wants you to do, ask him, and he will gladly tell you, for he is always ready to give a bountiful supply of wisdom to all who ask him.” (TLB)
There’s nothing wrong with planning, even during the uncertain days of a pandemic. But if I want God’s blessing on my plans, it’s important to include him in my planning.
The book of James gives a promise when it comes to planning. It says, “If you want to know what God wants you to do, ask him, and he will gladly tell you, for he is always ready to give a bountiful supply of wisdom to all who ask him” (James 1:5 TLB).
God promises he’ll give me wisdom as I plan. I just have to ask.
This is part of humbling myself before God. I don’t have to wonder what he wants me to do with my life. I just need to pray about it! God is always ready to give me the wisdom I need to make good plans.
I’m living in a unique time, and feel like most areas of life are in limbo. It seems difficult to make plans, because I’m stuck in a temporary situation. But, as the pandemic stretches on, I really don’t want to waste any of this time! It may feel like time is standing still, but God’s purposes are always moving forward. I shouldn’t miss out on being part of them.
While there are many things during this pandemic that I can’t control, there many things that I do have control over. I should consider setting aside an hour to prayerfully make a plan for the rest of this year. Perhaps it can be on spiritual growth, family, ministry, finances, or career. Whatever I want to talk to God about, make it a time to seek God’s wisdom and set some goals.
I should start by praying, “Lord, what do you want me to do for the rest of this year? What do you want me to do with my life? What is your will, God? Please give me your wisdom so that I can serve you well and fulfill my purpose.”
In summary, If I want to know what God wants me to do, just ask him. He is always ready to provide wisdom to those who ask. Even in this pandemic, there’s nothing wrong with planning. It’s important to include him in my planning processes. God promises he’ll give me wisdom as I plan. I just have to ask. I don’t need to wonder what he wants me to do with my life. I just need to pray about it! These times are unique, and I feel like most areas of life are in limbo and difficult to plan for, I really don’t want to waste any of this time, for God’s purposes are always moving forward.
Father, I will set aside some time this week to prayerfully make a plan for the rest of this year. I’ll start by praying, “Lord, what do you want me to do for the rest of this year? What do you want me to do with my life? What is your will, God? Please give me your wisdom so that I can serve you well and fulfill my purpose.” I also ask you for wisdom and guidance for my day, my week, my work and my interaction with others. This I pray in your Son Jesus’ name, amen.
