Choose Faith over Fear

In Hebrews 11:27 I ready, By faith [Moses] left Egypt, not fearing the king’s anger; he persevered because he saw him who is invisible.” (NIV)

True wealth is eternal. So, don't forfeit eternal rewards for temporary benefits. Like Moses, I need to be willing to make sacrifices now for the greater rewards I can’t see today.

Either I live by faith or I live by fear. The Bible says of Moses in Hebrews 11:27, “By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the king’s anger; he persevered because he saw him who is invisible” (NIV).

Moses' example teaches me that living by faith rather than by fear is a choice.

He went to the most powerful man in the world and said, “You know those slaves that are building all your pyramids? I’m taking them, and we’re all leaving. You’re not going to have slave labor anymore. Let my people go.”

Moses had every reason to be afraid. He was going up against a powerful man who was considered a god, and whatever Pharaoh said, you had to do. What he said was the law. And here came Moses and declared, “We aren’t going to do what you say anymore. I’m not afraid of you because I report to a higher authority.” That took some guts!

The closer I get to God, the more I’m going to be filled with faith. The further away I get from God, the more I’m going to be filled with fear.

Faith will be an important part of my life. The Bible says that whatever is not of faith is sin. I sin a lot. Anything I did that wasn’t done in faith but was done in doubt was a sin. The Bible also says that without faith it is impossible to please God. How many times have I pleased God this week?

To have something change in my life, I need to stop complaining, and start believing. God is not moved by complaints. God is moved by faith, a truth we see in these words of Jesus: “According to your faith let it be done to you” (Matthew 9:29 NIV). I get to choose what he does in my life.

Here’s the key: What matters is not the size of my faith but the size of the God I put it in. A little faith in a big God gets big results!

In summary, by faith Moses left Egypt, not fearing the king’s anger; he persevered because he saw him who is invisible. True wealth is eternal. Today’s study emphasises that my faith is key. I shouldn’t complain or be disappointed that what I want isn’t happening right away. I need to stop complaining and start having faith and believing. God is moved by my faith, not my complaints. Today I choose to focus my faith on you Father, knowing that you can do anything. What matters is you. I ask you for wisdom and guidance for my day and my planning for the future. I thank for this time off of work, to not worry about it, but rather relax without pressure. Any pressure or fear I feel, I'll turn over to you and trust you for my outcome. These things I pray in your Son Jesus’ name, amen.
