Not Letting Limitations Limit My Vision

In review of Esther 2:17 it says, The king was attracted to Esther more than to any of the other women, and she won his favor and approval . . . So he set a royal crown on her head and made her queen.” (NIV)

God placed Esther on the throne even before the Jews faced the possibility of complete destruction, so that when trouble came, a person would already be in the position to help. No human effort could thwart God's plan to send the Messiah to earth as a Jew. As I prepare for what will take place with my current role, It's not always easy to see God's purpose in my situation, but I need to understand that God is in control. He may be placing me in a position so that I can help when the need arises.

God will not only use my gifts to fulfill my destiny, but he’ll also use my limitations.

Let’s look at Esther again. She had several big limitations that made her perfect for the role God wanted her to fulfill. She was an orphan adopted by Mordecai; she was a minority, a Jew living in a Persian country; and she was a single woman. A single woman in a male-dominated society had zero rights.

But God used all of these things to help her fulfill her destiny.

Sometimes what looks like a disaster in life is part of a much bigger plan.

Esther could have just said, “If only I hadn’t been chosen . . . If only I had a better education . . . If only I was more like someone else.” A lot of people do that. They live their lives in resentment, always looking at people and saying, “Well it must be nice to be them.”

With this attitude, I would never fulfill my destiny. I need to realize that the unpleasant obstacles in my life are often God-ordained opportunities to make a difference.

It’s hard to see that when I’m feeling pain.

Look at Job. He was the wealthiest man in the world, and then God allowed everything to be taken from him— his family, wealth, and health.

Then, when Job started questioning God, God was silent.

Job said, “I do not see him in the north, for he is hidden. I look to the south, but he is concealed. But he knows where I am going . . . Once he has made his decision, who can change his mind? Whatever he wants to do, he does. So he will do to me whatever he has planned. He controls my destiny” (Job 23:9-10, 13-14 NLT).

I’m living in uncertain times, and I may not be able to figure everything out. But God knows what’s going on. The pleasures and pains, the opportunities and obstacles, God can use it all.

In summary, The king was attracted to Esther and she won his favor and approval.  He set a royal crown on her head and made her queen. He may be placing me in a position so that I can help when the need arises. God will not only use my gifts to fulfill my destiny, but he’ll also use my limitations. In this example Esther had several big limitations that made her perfect for the role God wanted her to fulfill. But God used all of these things to help her fulfill her destiny. The pleasures and pains, the opportunities and obstacles, God can use it all.

Currently I’m undergoing a difficult circumstance where I’ve been told that my job will go away. This will leave me in a situation where I will need to find new employment before the end of the year. I know from my past, when similar things have occurred that God has used me to be of assistance where I’m at and to build and train me. In this I will continue to do my very best and finish whatever time I have left helping others. I can continue to use my daily time with God to hear what he has to say and draw comfort from his Word.

I pray Father, that I do finish well by accomplishing the tasks set before me. I ask you for wisdom in guidance for my next role and for my day, my leadership and my interactions with others. This I pray through your Son Jesus’ name, Amen.
