In review of Ephesians 2:10 it tells me “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” (NLT).
This means, I am God's work of art, his workmanship. My salvation is something only God can do. It is his powerful, creative work in me. If God considers me his creative work, I dare not treat myself or others with disrespect or as inferior work.
God calls me to a service far beyond anything I could ever imagine. In fact I was put on earth to make a difference and a contribution.
I’m not here just to consume resources and take up space. I was created to add to life on earth. God wants me to give something back.
This verse tells me, “God . . . has created us for a life of good deeds, which he has already prepared for us to do” (Ephesians 2:10 GNT). These “good deeds” are my service to the world. Whenever I serve others in any way, I’m actually serving God (see Colossians 3:23-24, Matthew 25:34-45, and Ephesians 6:7).
What God told the prophet Jeremiah is also true for me: “Before I made you in your mother’s womb, I chose you. Before you were born, I set you apart for a special work” (Jeremiah 1:5 NCV).
When most people think of this “special work,” they think of professional clergy, but God says every member of his family is a minister. In the Bible, the words “servant” and “minister” are synonyms, as are “service” and “ministry.” If I am a Christ follower, I am a minister, and when I’m serving, I’m ministering.
God didn’t just immediately take me to heaven the moment I accepted his grace. He left me here to fulfill his purposes. Once I was saved, God intended to use me for his goals. God has a ministry for me in his church and a mission for me in the world.
I know that God has some specific things (ministry) for me in his church and a mission for me in the world. I need to start listening to his soft voice telling me what he is calling me to do today right where I live, in my home, neighborhood or community. It may be small things, but I need to be attentive to listen and to obey. This has been something I’ve struggled with. I should go back to the basics. God wants me to know and love him. God wants me to be of service to others. Show his love and guide them to him.
I pray this morning that I’d be open and listening. I also pray this morning for my health, to get over the chnoic cough, pray for healing and relief on the swelling on my feet and ankles. I also pray about my car, as something is up with the brakes or the electrical system. I pray God that you will guide me to an organization that will help me resolve the problem, and hopefully without a large cost. I pray for your wisdom and guidance today in my work, my leadership and my interaction with others. I know you have things you want me to serve or make a contribution with. I ask you the help reveal these to me. I pray all these things through your Son Jesus name, amen.
