In review of Matthew 7:11 it says, “So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.”
Bottom Line:
God gives good things to those who ask Him.
What this means to me:
If I as a parent, I knowingly give my daughter good things, how much more will my heavenly Father give good things to me if I just ask.
Today's verse comes from a passage Matthew 7 where Jesus taught his disciples regarding "effective" prayer. In this passage He tells me that for my prayers to be effective, I need to keep on asking, to keep on seeking and to keep on knocking. For everyone who asks, will receive. Everyone who seeks, will find it. And to everyone who knocks, will have the the door will be opened for them.
Sometimes it’s easy to think that God is a person just like me, but He isn’t. Jesus came as a man, but God never left His heavenly throne. God is better than any of us. God is perfect and knows all things. He sees everything from beginning to end.
We all had parents who made mistakes, but what I’ve learned is that I have a heavenly Father who loves and cares for me perfectly no matter what. Psalm 27:10 explains that even if my father and mother had abandoned me, the Lord himself will hold me close and take care of me. He is a good Father! He is a good God.
This reminds me of the song by Chris Tomlin, titled “Good, Good Father.”
“Oh, I've heard a thousand stories of what they think you're like
But I've heard the tender whisper of love in the dead of night
And you tell me that you're pleased
And that I'm never alone
Oh, and I've seen many searching for answers far and wide
But I know we're all searching
For answers only you provide
Cause you know just what we need
Before we say a word
You're a Good, Good Father
It's who you are, it's who you are, it's who you are
And I'm loved by you
It's who I am, it's who I am, it's who I am”
This morning I ask you Father to teach me to see You more clearly as the perfect Father that I can count on. Help me to be confident that You will give good gifts when I ask. I love you. Amen in Jesus’ name.
In summary, God gives good things to those who seek and ask Him.
