Bottom Line:
God wants to grow us to know the whole truth and tell it in a loving manner, more like Christ everyday.
What this means to me:
God wants me to mature, to know the whole truth, and to communicate it in love, more and more like Christ did.
God wants me to grow up: “We are not meant to remain as children” as stated in Ephesians 4:14a from the Phillips translation.
God goal for me is to mature and develop the characteristics of Jesus Christ, living a life of love and humble service. It would be sad to grow older but to never grow up, being stuck in perpetual spiritual infancy, remaining in diapers and booties. This can occur if I never intend to grow. Spiritual growth will come automatically; it will take intentional commitment. I must want to grow, decide to grow, make an effort to grow, and persist in growing.
Discipleship is the process of becoming like Christ, and it always begins with a decision: “‘Follow me and be my disciple,’ Jesus said to him. So Matthew got up and followed him” (Matthew 9:9b NLT, second edition).
When the first disciples chose to follow Jesus, they didn’t understand all the implications of their decision. They simply responded to Jesus’ invitation. And this is all I need as well: Just decide to become a disciple.
In summary, God wants me to mature, to know and to communicate the truth and thus become more like his son Christ. This verse helps to answer the first part of my question, “God what do you want me to do with my life?” This verse tells me that He wants me to grow and mature in character using Christ as my model. I do that by following him; learning, knowing and then practicing the truth. I practice it by making a difference in the lives of others by serving them and communicating the truth. I am to continue on a daily basis to learn more about him, his character and what he tells me to do. With Christ as my model, I am to imitate how he loved and served others.
