Learning To Make Jesus Christ My GPS for Life

In review of Hebrews 12:2 it says, “We must keep our eyes on Jesus, who leads us and makes our faith complete.”

Bottom Line:
Let us keep our eyes fixed on Jesus. Like a GPS, He knows where we are and will lead us, making our faith complete.

What this means to me:
I must keep my focus on Jesus, he knows where I am, and will lead and help to make my faith complete.

I have a tendency to easily become distracted. This tendency also makes it easier for me to become distracted spiritually as well - taking my eyes and focus off of him. If I’m not careful this will cause me to lapse back into old patterns.

I’m reminded that when Peter was walking on water; that as long as he kept his eyes on Jesus, he could do the impossible. However, when he took his eyes off of him, and looked down at the water, he sank. This is very similar to what happens when I get distracted, I’ve taken my eyes off of the Lord.

For centuries sailors would look for the North Star to navigate across the seas. The reason they always kept their eyes on the North Star is because it never changes. They could navigate based on something unchanging in their life.

Likewise I need a North Star for my life. Something that will never change. Today we don’t use the North Star for navigation because we have GPS systems or Google Maps on our smart phones. These devices allow us to connect to a satellite, an unchanging point of reference, which allows us to figure out where we are, where we need to go, and how to get there.

Everybody needs a “GPS” for life. And that’s what Jesus Christ provides. While everything else around might change, Christ will always be an unchanging point of focus. “We must keep our eyes on Jesus, who leads us and makes our faith complete” (Hebrews 12:2a CEV).
