In review of Proverbs 4:23 it says, “Be careful how you think; your life is shaped by your thoughts.”
Bottom Line:
Be careful what you think, because your thoughts run your life.
What this means to me:
I am to be very careful, guarding my thoughts above anything else, for they will determine the course of my life. To make any lasting change, I must change how I think. Behind everything I do, even my unhealthy habits is a thought that keeps me from getting healthy. In contrast, the Bible says I should “have the same mindset as Christ Jesus” (Philippians 2:5). God wants me to learn to think like Jesus. I do this by meditating on God’s Word and ask, “Lord, how would Jesus think about this?” The more I fill my mind with the Word of God, the easier it’s going to be. So I am to, “Be careful how you think; your life is shaped by your thoughts” (Proverbs 4:23 TEV). It’s like the old computer adage, “garbage in, garbage out.” What goes in will flow what’s coming out. It’s key to be careful with what I allow in, what I spend my thoughts on. What comes in is what will tend to guide my life. When it comes to my health and changing it, I need to keep from thinking that it’s impossible, or that I don’t have the time to eat / drink right.
