In summary of James 1:25 it says, “But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.”
Bottom line:
One who looks carefully into the revealed counsel of God, and not forgetting what it says but is faithful to do it, they will find delight and affirmation in the action.
What this means to me:
God has provided the guidance I need for living life. It is the law that actually will set me free (not bind me.) However, this guidance is not just something to hear and be better by. I need to apply it / do something with it / make it part of my natural inclinations. So I remind myself today through this passage that I must never stop looking at His perfect law that sets me free, because each time I look at it, it has more meaning or different things within it are revealed to me that I never saw before. God will bless me through my obedience in following it. Doing things on my own puts me in dangerous ground where outcomes can vary. God provides his protection when I do things his way. Just hearing alone doesn’t do it for me. I must listen, obey and take the next steps in faith. When I do right, the feelings of being right will follow especially as I see His blessings that come as a result of it.
